Wanito is a superbly talented musician from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, who won a contest we ran in Haiti last summer with his original music. Wanito’s music is a unique blend of acoustic guitar, reggae, and hip-hop and has an incredible ability to capture both the complex troubles and the simple pleasures of Haitian life.
PeaceTones successfully fund-raised last summer to bring Wanito to the US, record his very first album with a group of amazing Boston-based musicians, and to tour Boston and New York.
We now need your help to release Wanito's album, "Biyografi Mwen" ("My Biography" in Haitian Creole). With your help, we can send the album to press (i.e. make CDs), and get the word out about Wanito's music and his story through print, radio and other media. If we raise enough funds, we plan on bringing Wanito back to the US to do an album release tour, an opportunity that will really launch his career. Every dollar will go towards releasing and promoting this album, so the more we raise, the more we can help Wanito get his music out to the world!
With the plight of his fellow countrymen in mind, Wanito has also pledged to donate a portion of his income from this album to a community development project in his hometown of Port-au-Prince.
